“Method Pulls ‘Shiny Suds’ Ad After Sexism Complaints.”

I wish companies wouldn’t give in to stuff like this.  Look at the YouTube views, ratings, comments, and amount of people that took action over this ad in a positive way.  I showed this ad to my husband and his family over Thanksgiving, and they cracked up.  In terms of risk assessment, I would think the overwhelmingly positive response would outweigh the 100 people threatening to boycott Method because of this ad.  Do these people buy Method in the first place?  Are they going to continue to buy Method now that the ad is pulled?   I would be shocked if the majority of those threatening to boycott said yes to either of those questions.

Stuff like this all goes back to framing in my opinion.  I wonder how many of the people that commented on the website criticizing the ad saw this ad for the first time AFTER they read the “Today in Rape Culture” article.  Furthermore, I wonder if their response would have been different if they had found method on a forum promoting green behavior and discussing the humor and actual message of the ad.

That is all.

I always feel safer when it’s cold and raining because I think “No one wants to deal with the hassle of robbing someone in this weather.”

Our campaigns presentation was yesterday.  It was stressful to the very last second.  Our book costs about $80 to print.  When our professor got his copy a couple of weeks ago, he said he was going to want a copy to keep after we make his Dec. 8th corrections.  We mentioned the price of the book and the fact we all individually needed copies too, as well as one to bring to the presentation.  He said not to worry about bringing a copy to the presentation due to the expense and to just bring the corrected copy after Dec. 8.   Everyone in the class knew this.  The other group (with a much less expensive book due to design and color) had already printed off two copies, but they heard him say one wasn’t needed at the presentation as well.   One of my group members called one of their group members the night before the presentation to check and the other group’s person said “He said you don’t have to bring one.  We had just already printed a second copy.”

Unfortunately, the professor doesn’t seem to remember saying any of this and the other group didn’t back us up last night because they already had their second copy.  Thus, we walk in the room and the first thing he asks for is the second copy.  I’m actually still glad we didn’t have one for a couple of reasons:  First, the Nissan person wasn’t there anyway.  Second, after the presentation, the other group tried to give him their second copy for him to keep and he said no, he wanted a corrected one to keep, so they’ll have to print it again.  Thus, had we printed an expensive second copy, it would have been a throwaway anyway.

The actual presentation itself went over well though, so hopefully not having an extra book won’t make too much of a difference.

I had no idea how large those accounts were.  I’m also intrigued at the idea that Verizon vs AT&T is the new Coke vs Pepsi, although I think people are more Mac vs PC then Coke vs Pepsi nowadays.  It’ll be interesting to see where all this goes when AT&T loses the exclusivity of the iPhone next year.

Sidenote:  The Luke Wilson commercial came on while we were watching the Alabama game with Josh’s family the other day.  In case you havent seen it, it’s a 30-sec spot (I think), a separate unrelated spot or two, and then another 30-sec continuation discussing AT&T’s coverage.  I never feel like I perceive advertisements correctly because I overanalyze them.  However while watching these, my father-in-law said “Well, that’s a stupid commercial,” and my husband followed with “Verizon was talking about their 3G network, not their general phone coverage.  They didn’t even address that.”    Both comments were unprovoked.  I’d have to watch the commercials again to see if they really didnt mention 3G, but I just thought the comments were interesting.

Thanksgiving was fun… Got to spend a lot of time with my husband, which was needed and wonderful.  I also got to spend a lot of time with my sweet little nephew.  Other than that, not much to tell.

This week is going to be crazy.  I’m meeting w/ my campaigns group tomorrow night.  I’ve got a personal selling meeting Tuesday morning and the campaigns presentation Tuesday afternoon.  Also have 2 criminal psych mini-papers (3 pages and 2 pages) due Tuesday.  I’m pretty sure my Sales Roleplay is Wednesday, although I need to double check that on Tuesday.  Personal selling group project has to be ready by Thursday.  Also have a Criminal Psych test on Thursday.  Final draft for professional writing and social media campaign are due Friday.  Filming for de la Blue Friday afternoon.  Final report for professional writing is due Sunday.    I’m just ready for the week to be over.

I’m not even going to know what to do with myself by next Monday…  Although, I will need to start cleaning out/packing up the house.   My last exam is the 17th.  My in-laws are bringing up all the stuff we’ve been storing at their house on the 18th.  Also, picking husband up from the airport on the 18th.  Then graduation and family stuff on the 19th.  The movers are coming on the 21st and 22nd to pack up the rest of the house.  Also going to my best friend’s birthday thing on the night of the 21st.  Staying with my parents the 22nd and 23rd, staying with Josh’s parents the 24th and 25th – although we go to Christmas Eve church service w/ both sets of parents on the 24th (they go to the same church) and have breakfast with my family on the 25th.  Doing Christmas with my Dad and stepmom on the 26th.  Driving back to Florida on the 27th.  Josh goes back to work on the 28th which leaves me there to deal with the movers who are dropping everything off then.  Starting January off with job searching and helping a homecare company figure out social media and how to make it work for them (They just asked me yesterday to do this, which is exciting for me).  Midway through January, my in-laws are coming for a few days.  Then, hopefully, everything should be calm in February.  March is crazy again with my dad and stepmom there the first week, a wedding in TN the weekend after that, and my mom, stepdad, and sister coming the week after that.  Then April and May are calm that I know of, but we’ve got 2 weddings in Texas to go to in June.. one the first weekend, one midway through.  Then, no big plans until November (Italy the first 9 days, Tennessee during the Thanksgiving holidays), although we think some friends will stay with us at various times between June and October.

So basically, I already feel busy until this time next year ha

http://www.talentzoo.com/

this is quickly becoming one of my favorite sites.  They have job listings through Indeed, but it’s already filtered by advertising/marketing/communications/media/whatever.  They’re also a good central location for advertising news.  I’m hoping they continue growing and attract more ad job people.

This is a short post, but just thought I’d share.

So, on Friday, I was at the library about to film some stuff for campaigns (which is turning out disasterously).  I had “props” with me and was attempting to get them out of my car when I tripped and slammed my head against the side of my car door frame thing.  I have since been exhausted, a little nauseous, having difficulty driving, and a major headache on the right side of my head.  I thought it was possibly a concussion, but according to the Mayo Clinic website, those involve confusion and amnesia.  Thus, I haven’t seen a doctor.  I’ve decided to wait it out through Thanksgiving, but it has really slowed my productivity this weekend.  I’ve slept probably 30 of the last 48 hours.  I’ve gone to bed around 7 or 8 p.m. and slept until 11 a.m. and napped throughout the rest of the day.  It’s a little ridiculous.  I was sleeping earlier, but my husband called, so I’ve been up the last 30 minutes.

Point is:  if I seem out of it in class tomorrow, this is why.
